Frequently Asked Questions

  • Ultimately, renovating is about increasing the value of your space. A flawless finish and durable renovation requires expertise, quality fittings & fixtures, and skilled craftsmanship.

Cutting corners to reduce initial costs often leads to an unsatisfactory result, and can potentially lead to more expenditure down the line when repairs are required.

At Hasl Haus, we consult with you every step of the way to ensure you understand the service you are receiving for the budget you put forward.

Another major element of renovating involves colour matching. Our design team are masters at establishing a cohesive tone throughout a space, combining the correct finishes, fixtures and bench tops with the flooring and tiling.

  • We recommend engaging an interior designer if you are renovating an entire apartment or house. This is due to so many elements needing to come together, and there are dozens of  decisions that need to be made throughout the journey.

You have to think about curtains vs blinds (style, function, colour), lighting (ceiling, lamps, discreet), door handles, skirting boards, door trims, wallpaper … the interior designer will take the stress off your shoulders and ensure your home is as you imagined.

  • This decision depends on function and type of home. If you are living in a unit and you do not use a bathtub, then you can go without as it will not affect resale price too much.

However, we do recommend that a free standing home needs at least one tub in order to sell at a satisfactory price. The same rule applies for laundry tub sinks.

  • There are a variety of factors to consider when choosing a splash back for your kitchen renovation. A tiled splash back is the most cost effective and fastest option – whilst still providing a high quality finish. Stone is the second fastest option, however is more expensive than tile.

We also work with mirrored glass splash backs, especially for apartments and homes that are waterfront facing. The effect is beautiful; reflecting the view and light all around the kitchen. If you are keen on a glass splash back, please allow an extra two weeks.

  • There is no straight answer to this. At Hasl, we do not use modular/kit kitchens and bathrooms; we customise our designs to the room to maximise the space.

Some of the factors that can influence costs include the size of your kitchen/bathroom, which finish you are after, the type of bench top & splash back you select, the fixtures and features.

If you are after a ballpark figure, The Housing Industry Association’s average price for a kitchen renovation is AU$26, 280 (not including appliances). Likewise, a bathroom renovation in Queensland is averaged at AU$20,190.

  • KITCHEN
Of course, every kitchen is different and every renovation design will employ different elements and techniques to create the desired finish. However, a key aspect that will affect the timing of your renovation is which kitchen bench top you select.

If you are wanting a stone bench top, you will need to allow 3 weeks for your renovation to be completed from the construction start date. Once designs are agreed upon and works begin, cabinetry is fitted first. Then bench top measurements are checked on stone, the stone cutting takes a week to be produced and delivered, the bench top is fitted and, finally, the tiling, plumbing and electrical works finish off the project.

    BATHROOM
We have these down to an art after extensive experience, and usually complete an average bathroom renovation in 2 ½ weeks. That being said, every bathroom has its quirks and you will need to be prepared to allow for additional time as the project progresses and details come to light. Remember, it’s possible that structural weaknesses or past plumbing errors could be uncovered - especially if your home is over 10 years old.

    FULL UNITS / APARTMENTS
Generally, a full unit renovation takes about 6-8 weeks. However, the size of your unit, number of bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas, along with the complexity of the project, will all affect how long it takes. For example in some of our previous projects, we’ve removed walls to completely change the flow, and installed a floor to ceiling custom television cabinet complete with a fireplace. When it comes to transformations, the sky's the limit at Hasl Haus.

    FULL HOMES
Every renovation journey, and every home, is different. There are a number of factors that will impact how your project will roll out, and how long it will take to complete. These include; whether your house is single or double story, total square meterage, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, whether you will remain living in the home during the process, and any special custom requirements. For planning purposes, expect anywhere from 3 months onwards depending on the scale and extent of your renovation vision.

Hasl Haus is there every step of the way, consulting with you at each stage and providing you with consistent updates. We’re with you from start to finish, concept to completion.  Some of our most amazing homes have taken 8 months to complete, and the results truly speak for themselves. If there is anything you are not 100% satisfied by, we will continue to work with you until it is to your liking.

  • Our designers attend international trade shows annually to stay up to date on trending colours, fixtures and styles. Currently, 70’s styles are making a comeback; we’re seeing thinner bench tops, more colour and dark wood elements.

The Hamptons style is still as popular as ever, with its timeless, classic and homely attributes.

It’s important to note that if you are incorporating bold colours into your design, that these require updating around the 5 year mark. Meanwhile, a colour palette of whites, greys and neutrals will still feel fresh and appealing, and stand the test of time.
